Falzgrund

The trainshed

Iron ribs and glass from the 1979 rebuild over a floor plan drawn in 1911. Two platforms, both bay platforms: every journey here begins or ends, nothing passes through. In winter the shed doors close behind the last car and the hall smells of oiled steel and wet wool.

The dispatcher's box

One room above platform one, thirty-one years of Elsbeth Rohr, and a board of brass levers beside a modern screen. The levers set the real signals; the screen only writes the public board. On quiet afternoons the dispatcher says the levers are for thinking and the screen is for typing.

Connections

The postal bus stops on Bahnhofplatz, sixty steps from the ticket desk. The lake steamer pier is a four-minute walk with luggage, clearly signed in three languages, plus one hand-painted arrow the local hiking club refuses to remove.
