Summit station · 2,540 m

Sattelhorn

The summit hall

Cut into the ridge so the station stands when the summit wind does not. Rock walls, a stone floor worn smooth by a century of boots, and one enormous south window that frames the whole valley like a held photograph.

The observatory deck

Opened for the centenary in 2012, one flight above the hall. Free with any summit ticket, open dawn to dusk, and deliberately unlit at night for the astronomers. On the clearest evenings you can count eleven church towers down the valley.

The revolving restaurant

Completes one slow turn every 46 minutes, the exact journey time of a round trip below. The kitchen changes nothing and the view changes everything; the house specialty remains rosti with mountain cheese, and the house rule is no rushed tables.
